So long, summer

The facts are these: I have to say goodbye to summer. With school starting up in one week (oh, my woeful heart), I am faced with the one of the most important decisions one can make in life- What am I going to wear?! Furthermore, due to my bursting schedule, I have no time to shop. Sad, sad times here at Casa de Mo.
But do not fret, dear readers, this girl has a plan. Jack and Lazaro are just going to send me this outfit, and a large PS1 satchel (in slate gray) to carry my books in. (Note from Rebecca: a small PS1 costs over $1,000; come back down to Earth, Mo.)
And on the off chance that this doesn't work out, I'll have to make a little time for Forever 21.
Luckily, Mo has already helped me choose my back-to-school outfit. I don't want to give it away, as I believe our currently sparse readership will be seeing it for themselves on August 23rd. But suffice it to say, I'm very pleased with our joint decision. Lucky for me, I've been back-to-school shopping off-and-on just about since school ended last year. So I knew the first day was going to be great. Next up, how to make Mo happy with her outfit in the wake of her realization that she will not be carrying a PS1 to school this year. Jack and Lazaro, we really could use your help...

Those fateful Rocketdogs...
![]() |
| Rocketdog shoes, my favorite in 6th grade |
"I love your Rocketdogs! I've been wanting a pair for so long!"
They were in fact pink leather flat ones with many diagonal straps that many people have mistaken for ballet slippers over the years (although I'm sure real ballerinas would differentiate immediately). I still have them in black.
Just months before, in elementary school, I had been criticized by my pears just for wearing a skirt to school, and had received remarks when I arrived on winter mornings wearing a smart plaid trench coat that I resembled Sherlock Holmes. ("Well, I was thinking Ingrid Bergman or Katherine Hepburn, but...")
Besides a particularly embarrassing attached polyester shirt-sweater-vest that she wore that year, I found that Mo was as much of a fashionista as I was, and I had found my partner in crime (of the sartorial variety).
By seventh grade, we were constantly discussing our favorite designers and new trends, and going over each episode of Project Runway after its premiere (that year was season 4, the best one, featuring Christian, Chris, Jillian, Rami, and Sweet Pea; yes, I still remember all their names!).
Now, we'll be including all of you in our fashion-related discussions. We may even need you to mediate some of our disagreements.
We hope you'll enjoy coming along for the ride.
Watch out, Tavi!
The facts are these: There's a new broad in the blogosphere!
and that would be moi: Mo. I'm here to dish on all things Fashion, from the classy to the Klassy, and to keep the balance between Rebecca's lace-and-pearls aesthetic and my Grace-Kelly-meets-Ezra-Koenig style. The two of us often agree to disagree on things.
But I'm still the Lazaro to her Jack, and she's the Commes to my Garcons.
Here's a bit about me-
My wardrobe consists of more trendy and sporty things than Rebecca's (don't get her started on Alexander Wang). And I have a true appreciation for old school preppiness and real American sportswear (don't get me started on Love Story). In parting, Rebecca is the Lady, and I am the Gaga of this blog- So Tavi, watch out- there are two new sheriffs in town
and the fashion police force has never been better.

Vilkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome...
The facts are these: after months of formulating, brainstorming, and generally pondering this blog, we have launched! So: Vilkommen, bienvenue, and welcome to "The Facts Were These"! (That was a Cabaret reference, for those of our readers who are less musical-theatrically inclined). Everything you need to know-- and we want to discuss-- vis-a-vis fashion, style, and all-things-chic is to come.
Here is a bit about my style: I tend toward feminine and classy designs, and I don't stand for the now outdated punk/too-many-spiky-leather-leggings or overly-preppy/all-I-own-are-Lacoste-polos trends in any way. I take much of my inspiration from the photos of Richard Avedon and Irving Penn and from old Hollywood glamour, as portrayed by stars such as Rosalind Russell, Grace Kelly and (my icon) Audrey Hepburn.
I plan to serve as the voice of class, elegance, and high style in the face of fast fashion and Lady Gaga.
